Description

My mom used to make tamarind chutney to go over Indian snacks such as chats,   samosas, bhel puri etc. Nothing can beat the taste of her chutney but of course there was lot of sugar or jaggery and long cooking times. So I thought of recreating this traditional dip using dates instead of sugar.

Here’s a simple recipe that you can create in minutes with the same aahhmaazzzing taste.

Method:

  1. You can choose any type of date and take the pit out. I use medjool dates as they are softer and easier to blend.
  2. Pour 1 cup hot water over the pitted dates or better yet you can soften the dates by adding water and microwaving it for a minute
  3. Transfer the dates along with the water to the blender jar and add the remaining ingredients  (tamarind paste, garlic, chat masala, salt). I used Tamicon tamarind concentrate and MDH Chat masala.
  4.  Blend all of them. If you like thinner consistency you can add more water.
  5. Enjoy!!!

Ingredients

1 and half cup pitted dates (20-25 dates)
1 cup water
1 Tablespoon Tamarind paste/concentrate
1 teaspoon Chat masala
1 Garlic clove
1/2 teaspoon salt
