Finally! I am giving away my secret recipe, which everyone loves to have when they come to our place. This is one dish that the fussy kids or picky eaters don’t mind to have.

This is a very flavorful dish deriving it’s taste from numerous spices. Don’t get intimidated by the number or name of the spices. These can be found in your regular grocery store. You do not have to hit the Asian store in particular. If you cannot find the spices in whole form, you can also buy powdered form. Even if one of the spice is missing, it’s not a big deal.

  1. Heat the pan on a medium heat and dry roast the spices – star anise, cardamom, fennel, cumin, cinnamon, and cloves for 1 min.
  2.  Add onions, green chilli and salt, cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add Ginger garlic paste – saute for 1 min and then add tomatoes and let it cook for 2  minutes.
  4. Add tomato puree. Add 1 cup of water , cook for 2 min.
  5. Add turmeric powder,  chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala and cashews.
  6. Blend the poppy seeds in coffee grinder or blender and add them. Stir well.  Let it cook for 3 mins.
  7. Turn off the stove and let it cool. Transfer the contents to a blender and blend it to smooth paste. Add some water if needed to blend.
  8. Transfer the blended mixture back to the pan and turn on the stove.
  9. Dice extra firm tofu to small cubes and add them. Cover with lid.  Add dried fenugrek (kasuri methi), and cilantro . Mix well and transfer to serving dish.
  10. Enjoy!!!



1 Star anise
2 Cinnamon sticks
3 Cardamom
4 Cloves
1 teaspoon Cumin
1 Tablespoon fennel seeds
1 Tablespoon poppy seeds
2 cups chopped onion
1&1/2 cup tomatoes chopped
1/2 cup tomato paste
1 Tablespoon Ginger garlic paste
1 green chilli
1/8 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
15 to 20 Cashews
1/2 teaspoon Kasuri Methi (dried fenugreek)
2 teaspoons cilantro finely chopped
Salt – 1/2 teaspoon or to taste
1 pack extra firm tofu cubed
