Finally! I am giving away my secret recipe, which everyone loves to have when they come to our place. This is one dish that the fussy kids or picky eaters don’t mind having.

This is a very flavorful dish deriving its taste from numerous spices. Don’t get intimidated by the number or name of the spices. These can be found in your regular grocery store. You do not have to hit the Asian store in particular. If you cannot find the spices in their whole form, you can also buy them in powdered form. Even if one of the spices is missing, it’s not a big deal.

  1. Heat the pan on a medium heat and dry roast the spices – star anise, cardamom, fennel, cumin, cinnamon, and cloves for 1 minute.
  2.  Add onions, green chili and salt and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1 minute and then add tomatoes and let it cook for 2 minutes.
  4. Add tomato purée. Add 1 cup of water and cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Add turmeric powder, chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala and cashews.
  6. Blend the poppy seeds in a coffee grinder or blender and add them. Stir well.  Let it cook for 3 minutes.
  7. Turn off the stove and let it cool. Transfer the contents to a blender and blend it to a smooth paste. Add some water if needed for blending.
  8. Transfer the blended mixture back to the pan and turn on the stove.
  9. Dice extra firm tofu to small cubes and add them. Cover with lid.  Add dried fenugreek (kasuri methi) and cilantro. Mix well and transfer to a serving dish.
  10. Enjoy!!!

2 cinnamon sticks
3 cardamom
4 cloves
1 teaspoon of cumin
1 tablespoon of fennel seeds
1 tablespoon of poppy seeds
2 cups of chopped onion
1 1/2 cups of tomatoes, chopped
1/2 cup of tomato paste
1 tablespoon of ginger garlic paste
1 green chilli
1/8 teaspoon of turmeric
1 teaspoon of chilli powder
1/2 teaspoon of cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon of coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon of garam masala
15 to 20 cashews
1/2 teaspoon of kasuri methi (dried fenugreek)
2 teaspoons of cilantro, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon of salt or to taste
1 package of extra-firm tofu, cubed
