Every transformation has a beginning.
For Samiha and Fizal, it began with a quiet realization: the way they were eating and living was no longer supporting the life they wanted to live.
They weren’t looking for a quick fix.
They were looking for a sustainable, compassionate way to heal — together.
This is where their story began — the struggles they faced and the genuine desire to transform them.
Before the Shift: What Life Looked Like
Fizal’s Story
Before joining the Gift of Health Food as Medicine program, Fizal was living with anxiety, ADHD, OCD, eye problems, fatigue, high cholesterol, and ongoing gut health issues. Exercise wasn’t part of his routine, and fast food had become a habit — nearly three times a week. Most meals revolved around rice and chicken.
He shared a simple but deeply meaningful goal:
“I just want to fit into medium shirts again.”
Behind those words was a desire many can relate to — wanting to feel lighter, healthier, and more comfortable in his own body.
Samiha’s Story
Samiha was dealing with acid reflux after meals, anxiety, rising weight, low iron, fatigue, poor sleep, and menstrual cycles that sometimes came twice a month. As she entered perimenopause, the unpredictability felt even harder.
She described it honestly:
“My weight keeps increasing… I feel tired… sometimes I get my cycle twice a month.”
Her goals were clear and heartfelt:
Lose 10–15 kilos
Eliminate acid reflux
Increase physical stamina
Fall asleep easily at night
Comfort foods like fish curries, sweets, and tea with biscuits were part of daily life — familiar and comforting, yet no longer serving her health.
The Turning Point: Joining the Food as Medicine Program
Their turning point was simple and grounded:
Samiha and Fizal joined the Gift of Health Food as Medicine program — together.
Inside the program, they began understanding why their symptoms were happening, how food impacts inflammation, hormones, digestion, and energy, and what it truly means to use food as medicine.
Just as importantly, they felt supported — by each other, by the community, and by guidance they described as feeling “like support from a family member.”
What Began Transforming
Fizal’s Transformation
As Fizal transitioned to a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle:
He cut out dairy and sugar
His fatigue improved so much that he stopped needing B12 supplements
His gut health improved
He felt lighter and more energetic
He lost 8 pounds (5% of his body weight)
He began fitting into medium shirts again
He shared with gratitude:
“I feel blessed to achieve a new lifestyle for a healthier rest of my life.”
“I can’t wait to take medical checkups every year to see how healthy I am.”
“I could become a change and empower people around me.”
Samiha’s Transformation
Samiha noticed profound shifts as well:
Acid reflux improved — during and after the course
She completely cut out dairy
She stopped taking iron supplements
She lost 5.8% of her body weight
She felt less moody and less irritated
She became confident while grocery shopping
She learned to “plantify” her favourite traditional dishes
Her reflections capture the depth of her experience:
“I was initially skeptical… yet I am so glad I remained open.”
“Without strict dieting, starvation, or exercise, I began noticing real changes.”
“This program helped me feel like I had control again over my body during perimenopause.”
She also shared how meaningful it was to do this journey together:
“Knowing my husband was doing this with me boosted my confidence.”
The Transformation They’re Enjoying Now
Today, Sameeha and Fizal are enjoying:
More energy and lightness
Improved gut health
No more acid reflux
Clothes fitting better
Simple, nourishing meals they enjoy — 5-minute breakfast bowls, salad bowls, scrambled tofu
Greater awareness while grocery shopping
Saving money by avoiding unhealthy foods
A better understanding of protein and calorie density
More variety — “not just chicken and beef all the time”
Feeling supported by the community and by each other
A lifestyle that feels sustainable, meaningful, and empowering
They no longer see this as a diet, but as a new way of living.
As they put it so simply and powerfully:
“Health is wealth.”
Below are a few meals Sameeha and Fizal prepared during the course — simple, nourishing, and joyful.
