Resilience of Garlic

Post by giftofhealth

I picked these bulbs of garlic from our backyard garden today. We planted garlic in our garden in July of last year. The garlic plants survived the harsh and snowy winter of Newfoundland. They started picking up their growth over the last two months. Perhaps the resilience to tolerate and survive through harsh conditions is what makes garlic a very strong anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer herb. Garlic was used as medicine in ancient Indian medicine (Ayurveda) and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Garlic, turmeric, ginger, cloves, cinnamon, and cardamom are some of the herbs and spices that I highly recommend. I have been fortunate to grow up eating Indian food that is full of flavorful, colorful and delicious spices and herbs.

Garlic and other phytonutrients found in fruits, vegetables, greens, and grains appear to protect against DNA damage induced by mutation causing chemicals found in cooked meat. Check out this four-minute video by Dr. Greger.

Garlic and onions help in increasing the absorption of minerals like iron from other plant based foods – check out this video from Dr. Greger
